Cobblestones Exhibition - GREYTOWN: 38 Sections, 38 Stories

A scale model of Greytown's main street at Cobblestones

Step back in time 100 years as part of the new exhibition at Cobblestones called GREYTOWN: 38 Sections, 38 Stories.

The exhibition features a three metre long, 1:250 scale model of the town's Main Street as it was at the end of World War I, including 38 sections and 38 panels telling the stories of those who lived there.

This exhibition also reveals how land was acquired by the Crown from local Maori through the 1853 Kuratawhiti Purchase and its subsequent survey and sale as a Small Farms Settlement.

Also featuring art by Tina Rae Carter, a hand-painted interpretation of the Waiohine River and a slide show of historic photos with sound effects, that runs continuously.
