A short drive south is Middleton Model Railway and Cwmglyn Cheese Farmhouse. The model railway is cool for kids too.

Pukaha National Wildlife Centre is a must do - visit Manukura, the only white kiwi in captivity in the world, Kahurangi the Kokako, eels and kaka as well as walk through the free flight aviary. There’s a great café and a good place for a leg stretch for those driving from Hawkes Bay (Pukaha is half way between Napier and Wellington).
