Fly Air New Zealand direct from Auckland to Palmerston North. Coming from Hamilton or Christchurch? No problem - Air New Zealand flies from there too. Rent a Hertz Thrifty car at the airport, book a shuttle with Wai Shuttles or Carterton Shuttles, or rent a motorhome or campervan with Palmy Campers then enjoy the 1h 30 minute scenic drive to Masterton via the Saddle Road connecting to Woodville. There are heaps of flights a day in and out of Palmerston North airport and there's a Koru Lounge too.
On the drive to Masterton you'll pass Tui Brewery, Mangatainoka and the Pukaha National Wildlife Centre - perfect stops for lunch. There's also the Middleton Model Railway - one of NZ's biggest - and award-winning Cwmglyn farmhouse cheese to try and buy.
