Flying Programme Wings 2019
To celebrate 20 years, Wings Over Wairarapa 2019 has been completely refreshed with more engaging, interactive and hands-on displays and demonstrations. A highlight of the show will be the New Zealand debut of a Boeing B-52 Stratofortress, flying over the Saturday show at 2pm - unable to land at Hood Aertodrome because of its weight! The B-52 will not land in New Zealand and leaves straight away after the flyover to the Avalon Air Show in Australia. The B-52 is an American long-range, subsonic, jet-powered bomber operated by the United States Airforce, capable of carrying up to 32,000kg of weapons with a typical combat range of more than 14,080km! A very rare chance to see a military aircraft of this size and significance in New Zealand.
The Vintage Aviator Hood Aerodrome will feature prominently on both Saturday and Sunday. They house the largest collection of flying WWI aircraft in the world - many of which have not been seen outside Hood Aerodrome in Masterton.
UK glider Team Airborne Pyrotechnics perform a routine on both days as well as being the headline act for Saturday Night's Show. Thousands of coloured LED lights are attached to their gliders and 4.5kg of pyrotechnics set-off from the wing tips as they fly, all while performing to music! A first of its kind show in NZ and not to be missed!
Civil, military and agricultural aircraft, gyrocopters and helicopters also feature.
A highlight of both shows will be a display by The Royal New Zealand Air Force Black Falcons aerobatic team.
