Given the COVID alert level 2 status and the impact of the guidelines on social distancing, and people gathering, Featherston Booktown have made the difficult decision to cancel the last Words in Winter events for August due to be held in the Anzac Hall on Saturday 22 August. They hope to reschedule the events soon, either in late summer or at the Featherston Booktown Karukatea Festival in May 2021.
The Featherston Booktown festival is a wonderful weekend of books, ideas, conversations, workshops, stories, provocation and inspiration enjoyed by all ages each year in May.
Featherston is one of only 22 accredited Booktowns in the world, and the only one in New Zealand. Criteria for international Booktown status include having a certain number of book shops in the local community, (Featherston has seven and counting), and hold a regular book festival.
There are always plenty of events for all ages and interests at the annual Booktown festival, celebrating everything to do with books. You can take part in workshops and interactive sessions, go to the popular book fair including stalls with rare and second hand books plus you'll be able to hear authors speak.
