Waitangi Day is a great little break in the middle of the week on Thursday 6 February and we can help you celebrate.

Exciting Horse Racing

Tauherenikau Races 
Thurs 6 Feb. Gates open 10am

Lots of fun for the family - watch the horses race plus there is free kids entertainment. Gate entry is $20 for adults and Under 18's are free. Tranzit buses will meet the Wellington Train leaving Wellington at 9.55am and getting into Featherston at 10.55am, and return to meet the return service to Wellington at 5.25pm, getting into Wellington at 6.25pm.

Local Concert

Waifest 2020
Thurs 6 Feb 10am - 3pm

A local celebration of Waitangi Day with live entertainment from Herbs Acousitc supported by Maisey Rika and other local acts. Waifest will showcase live entertainment, art, food stalls, storytelling and history, with this year marking the 180th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty.

Design your own flag

Aratoi Museum of Art & History
Thurs 6 - Sun 9 Feb 10am - 4pm

Flags may look simple but they are full of meaning. Aratoi will have an activity table in the foyer over 4 days for children to design their own flag, using New Zealand symbols, images, colours and patterns.

Weaving at Pūkaha

Harakeke weaving workshops at Pukaha National Wildlife Cente
Monday 3 - Friday 7 Feb

Learn from their Kairaranga Waiaria Pitau how to harvest and weave harakeke. Workshops run for 2hrs. The first hour includes a hikoi to Pūkaha's wetlands to learn about harakeke tikanga and sustainable harvesting, followed by hands-on learning to weave your own harkakeke tuna (fish) to take home. All session are free. 10 spaces available in each. First come first served.

Sun 9 Feb 2-5pm

How about wine with pizza, platters and burgers in the vines while listening to live music? The perfect way to wind down the weekend.
