Up to 500 competitors, National & International, will converge on Masterton for the world’s premier shearing, woolhandling and pressing championships. The three-day event encompasses novice, junior, intermediate, senior and open shearing competitions along with junior, senior and open woolhandling events and singles, pairs and women’s wool pressing competitions, as well as the coveted triathlon award.

The Golden Shears is great family viewing with atmosphere, action, and excitement culminating with the finals held on Friday night & Saturday night. 

Coming in 2026 is the 20th Golden Shears World Shearing and Woolhandling Championships from 4-7 March 2026.
