Star Safari
Did you know that the Wairarapa International Dark Sky Reserve has one of the darkest and clearest skies in New Zealand? Only 102km from the Wellington Airport, and you get a personalised and unique tour of the universe through powerful telescopes.
About
We are Hari and Sam, and we created Star Safari to share the wonder of the southern night sky. In the Wairarapa, highlighted by Lonely Planet as a world-class stargazing region, you will look through powerful 16-inch telescopes with top-quality optics and learn to navigate the stars for yourself. Beginners can discover where to start, and advanced observers are welcome to bring their lists. Across 90 minutes, we explore star clusters, the Moon, planets when visible, and the stories of the sky. If the weather is unsuitable, we switch to an immersive virtual reality tour of the cosmos. Ask questions, be curious. Every session is personal and welcoming. An inspiring experience that lets you feel truly connected to the universe.
