Grava was founded in 2014 by experienced winemaker and viticulturalist Alistair Gardner and his wife Karla Falloon. In Spanish, Grava means gravel, and although Alistair has spent more than a decade in Spain perfecting his craft, both Alistair and Karla are passionate New Zealanders. When they found ideal gravelly soils on the Dry River flats of Martinborough, they paid homage to Iberia with their name.
