One of the most popular day trips in the Tararua Forest Park is the climb to Mountain House along the Gentle Annie Track, taking 3-4 hours.

Starting in the Holdsworth carpark, this easy walking track passes Rocky Lookout where you can stop for panoramic views and reaches the junction with Totara Creek track after 1.5 hours. Twenty minutes later, after crossing the boardwalks through Pig Flat, you'll see Mountain House Shelter nestled among silver beech trees.
Location
The trail starts from the entrance to Tararua Forest Park on Mount Holdsworth Road. To get there, turn off State Highway 2 into Norfolk Road and follow the signs to Tararua Forest Park
