Aorangi Forest Park
Aorangi Forest Park is popular with trampers and recreational hunters, about 50 minutes' drive south of Martinborough.
About
There is a two to three day walk for advanced trampers across the southern Aorangi range with stunning views of Palliser Bay across to the Remutaka Ranges.
The Aorangi Forest Park and surrounding area features some of New Zealand’s most striking landforms, including the stunning Putangirua Pinnacles, Kupe’s Sail near Cape Palliser Lighthouse, and the coastal Whatarangi Bluff near Ngawi, which can be visited from Cape Palliser.
Hut tickets are required to stay overnight, and you can get them from the Masterton or Martinborough isite Visitor Information Centre.
Location
The track can be accessed from the caretaker’s residence at Te Kopi along the Cape Palliser Road or from Mangatoetoe, further along the coastline just south of Ngawi.
