The Pinnacles Track, Ridge Walk Track and the streambed are currently closed due to a large slip near the carpark. Do not attempt to go around or over the slip as it is not safe.

The Putangirua Pinnacles near Cape Palliser are some of the most amazing rock formations you will ever see. This spot has star quality too - Peter Jackson filmed here for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.  

Choose from a direct route to the lookout, walking up the stream bed or take the longer route continuing uphill for excellent views of Palliser Bay and Lake Onoke. Allow 3 to 4 hours for the return trip. 

Doing the walk early morning is best for the effect of the early sunshine coming through the rock formations, conveniently avoiding the heat of the day.
