This touring route passes through pretty farming country and friendly little towns on its way between neighboring Hawkes Bay and the Wairarapa.
About
Starting in Waipukurau and ending in Masterton this 202km ride generally takes about two days, passing through farmland and little country towns like Porangahau, Wimbledon, Pongaroa, Glenross and Alfredton.
Plenty of country hospitality can be found along the way in country pubs and cafes, with overnight accomodation options and camping sites to choose from.
The last 46km from Alfredton to Masterton is a great stretch of riding - mostly downhill!
You'll be biking in some remote places, so take with you plenty of food, water, and spare clothes.
The ride also feeds nicely into another Nga Haerenga 'Great Ride', the Remutaka Cycle Trail that starts in southern Wairarapa.
Location
The trail starts from the shopping center in Waipukurau, heading south on Porangahau Road, passing through several country towns, until you reach Masterton in the Wairarapa.
