The Golden Shears brings you the top sheep shearers, wool pressers and wool handlers in New Zealand as they put it all on the line for glory. Held each year in early March, the three-day event includes shearing competitions, wool handling events, and wool pressing competitions, plus the coveted triathlon award. The major events, finals, and live entertainment are held on Friday and Saturday night, with plenty of action and excitement. This is a spectacle event for anyone interested in the rural sector, or visitors wanting to experience something especially unique. 

Coming in 2026 is the 20th Golden Shears World Shearing and Woolhandling Championships from 4-7 March.
