At the heart of SH2, drive from Wellington over the Remutaka Hill and down into Wairarapa. It’s just over a 1 hour drive to Featherston. Continue on for another 15 minutes to Greytown or Martinborough. 20 minutes to Carterton or 40 minutes to Masterton.
Coming from Palmerston North? It’s a 1.5 hour drive via Pahiatua to Masterton.
Trains connect Wellington with Featherston, Woodside (Greytown), Carterton and Masterton, then catch a connecting bus to Martinborough or Greytown (weekdays only). See the Wellington to Wairarapa train timetable.
