About
The Featherston Heritage Museum houses a collection of information and memorabilia from the WWI Featherston Military Training Camp, the WWII Japanese Prisoner of War Camp, and of Featherston and its surrounding districts.
Take this rare opportunity to see unique artworks and carvings made by the some of the 800 Japanese prisoners of war that were held here, alongside original photos, audio visuals and historical artefacts from World War I and II.
Learn more from An Awfully Big Adventure – Our Voice audio-visual that brings the camp and its history to life, including stories about the 60,000 New Zealand troops that trained here, preparing for the Great War between 1916 and 1918.
You can also see a working Ford Model AA 1932 fire engine and fire fighting memorabilia of the Featherston Volunteer Fire Brigade.
While you're there, take the opportunity to visit the Dibble sculpture that commemorates the camp across the road adjacent to Featherston Town Square, and check out the Fell Locomotive Museum next door.
