In 2026 Masterton plays host to the Golden Shears World Shearing and Woolhandling Championships. Up to 500 competitors, national & international, will converge on Masterton for this 4 -day event encompassing novice, junior, intermediate, senior and open shearing competitions along with junior, senior and open woolhandling events and singles, pairs and women’s wool pressing competitions, as well as the coveted triathlon award.

The Golden Shears is great family viewing with atmosphere, action, and excitement culminating with the finals held on Friday & Saturday night.
