One of New Zealand’s Great Rides, this 115km trail is rich in history with diverse terrain rideable by most people.
The trail can be accessed in many places so you can tailor your ride to suit your needs and fitness levels, choosing to ride parts of the trail in one day or ride the whole trail over several days.
Ride through a river valley, rolling foothills, bush-clad ranges, old railway tunnels, lakesides, farmland or rugged coastline - take your pick!
For a rewarding day select just part of the trail like the hugely popular Remutaka Rail Trail, an excellent bike or walk following the old rail route established in 1878, that takes you through historic railway tunnels.

****Essential Upgrade Works Underway for Remutaka Cycle Trail - temporary closures affect the 2km section between Cross Creek Yards and Cross Creek Carpark while safety upgrades are being completed.
School Holidays (28 Sept – 9 Oct) – the track will be open but under Stop/Go management between 7am-4pm, except at weekends (when it will be open). You may have to wait up to 30 mins before being let through. Be prepared to dismount and walk bikes through the worksite.
