The Totara Flats Hut is a great overnight tramp for newer trampers looking to build their experience, with the two main routes best suited to those who have some experience in backcountry tramping.
About
Totara Flats Hut is in a beautiful setting where the Waiohine River meets Totara Creek, about half an hour from Carterton. At one end of the tramp the track crosses the Waiohine Gorge suspension bridge, the largest of its kind in New Zealand.
The best experience of the track is entering at one end and coming out the other, taking two days return.
Location
You can get to Totara Flats Hut from either Mount Holdsworth in Masterton or the Waiohine Gorge in Carterton.
