Whakapuni Station is a working sheep and beef farm 20 minutes east of Martinborough. Purchased by Andy and Bridget Mathewson in 2008 the garden which was originally established in 1931 now features a delightful fusion of heritage and modern elements.
About
In this beautiful example of a country station, the generations of gardeners show through in various sections of the gardens. Bridget has added to this established garden extending the back lawn where an opening in the hornbeam hedge invites you through an avenue of conifer trees and out to the lawns, ha-ha border and pond with wetland planting. The formal gardens include roses, hydrangeas, delphiniums, lavenders and peonies set within borders of buxus and teucrium. Modern topiaries and sculptures are incorporated into the new courtyard landscaping around the house. Clever use of concrete styles, tiles, pebbles and timber provide a visual pleasure and structure to the garden which is sure to inspire.
