Beaches and coastal areas

Get your togs and sunscreen and head out to Castlepoint or Riversdale.

Our coastal areas are a great spot in the summer with lots of things to do and see - like the seals at Cape Palliser.

Swimming spots:

When it gets hot in the Wairarapa you need to take the plunge. Take a look at our top spots.

Walks, Tramps, Cycling

Get out and about in the outdoors! Walks - we have everything from a short stroll around our reserves to a multi-day tramp along the coast or in the Tararua Ranges.

Feel like bike ride? Cycle the vines, our quiet country roads or check out our bike trails. The Remutaka Rail Trail is a must these summer holidays.

We're buzzing with lots of great events. Check them all out here.

Pukaha National Wildlife Centre - get up close to native wildlife such as tuatara, kaka, kokako and NZ's white kiwi - Manukura.

Aratoi - Wairarapa Museum of Art and History. Discover works by local painters, photographers and sculptors, don't miss ConArt  next door! Aratoi is across the road from the Queen Elizabeth Park - a fun stop with the kids.

Fun for families:

There is plenty on to keep the kids entertained for the holidays. Check out our ideas.

Eat:

Keep your energy up while exploring the region. Cafes, restaurants, bakeries and foodie delights - your options are endless.
