Tararua Adventure

The Wairarapa offers a range of adventures for all abilities - from family-friendly walks and horse treks to quad bike rides, helicopter flights and hunting.

Make sure you do at least part of the spectacular Rimutaka Cycle Trail, one of 22 'Great Rides' in New Zealand.

Take a look at some of our options:

The Tararua Range provides Wellington, Wairarapa, Horowhenua and Manawatu with an outstanding variety of tramping, hunting and walking opportunities in a wild, natural landscape.
The Putangirua Pinnacles are some of the most amazing rock formations you’ll ever see. Allow at least two hours return and take food and water. This is one of the most incredible walks in Wairarapa.
Hammonds Wairarapa Palliser Bay Tour departs Wellington and Martinborough, provides a light lunch and visits some local Lord of The Rings film sites, Palliser Bay and Lighthouse and the fantastic fur seal colony.
The Barra Track to Mitre Flats is excellent as that first, slightly more challenging family tramp. The tramp is just 15 minutes from Masterton at the end of Upper Waingawa Road; in the Tararuas.
The best way to get a view of and access the Wairarapa's Tararua and Rimutaka Forest Parks, rivers, gorges, lakes, valleys and remote huts is by air.
Wairarapa Quad Adventures will take you on an adventure like no other. Experience magnificent scenery in and around the Martinborough area with qualified guides.
Based on a large sheep and beef farm, Gladstone Horse Treks offers horse trekking to suit all levels. We operate small groups of no more then five guests. With over 2500 acres to explore we have a range of rides for all levels.
Kahutara Canoes is all about people from toddlers to grandparents enjoying themselves on the scenic Ruamahanga River in a way few people have experienced before.
