See and Do

Pukaha National Wildlife Centre is an unfenced sanctuary for native wildlife. Our 942-hectare forest is home to wild kokako and kaka, while inside our aviaries we breed endangered birds for release across Aotearoa New Zealand.

On your visit you will learn about our conservation work and possibly see birds with their chicks in the aviaries. You may also come across wild birds in the forest such as the titipounamu (rifleman), karearea (New Zealand falcon) and the kereru (wood pigeon). You may also see advocacy birds like Manukura the white kiwi and Kahurangi the kokako.

We are a craft Brewery with an Alehouse located in central Carterton, open for tours and tastings (by arrangement) as well as for bottle sales and ales on tap.

Have the two passionate brewers, Gary and Brent, show you around their craft brewery where they brew and sell a fine range of English-style ales. Brewed traditionally using a gravity feed system they will show you the brewery, explain how they brew their ales and give tastings of the half dozen varieties they produce.

Tours with tastings (by arrangement): $15/person
Alehouse opening hours: Thurs-Sat 2-9pm

For millennia people have gazed in awe at Stonehenge and other great stone circles, often totally unaware of how these structures were used.

Now a full-scale working adaptation of Stonehenge has been built right here in Aotearoa, allowing all New Zealanders to experience the wonders of stone circles for themselves.

Situated in the Wairarapa countryside, a short distance from Wellington, Stonehenge Aotearoa is a window into the past where the visitor can rediscover the knowledge of their ancestors.
